The Everest Base Camp trek, at an elevation of 5,364 meters, (17,598ft) is one of the most popular treks in Nepal. The South Base Camp is used when climbing via the southeast ridge in Nepal, as well as for base camp visitors, while the North Base Camp is used when climbing via the northeast ridge (from Tibet side).
Everest Base Camp trekking is one of the most rewarding trekking routes in the Himalayas of Nepal and is visited by thousands of trekkers each year. One of the primary goals of an Everest trekking is to visit Everest base camp, 5364 meters. Especially during spring, you can meet the Everest climbers and their camp in the base camp. However, you cannot see Everest from the base camp, so most of our trekkers or climbers climb Kalapattar, a 5545-meter bump on the southern flank of Pumori Mountain, (7145 meters), which is highly rewarding for the views over the entire Khumbu valley. From Kalapattar, Everest & Khumbu Himalayan ranges can be seen. The best time to walk to Kalapattar at sunrise or sunset. The walk-up to Kalapattar takes 2-3 hours one way. It is possible to be combined with the day hike to Kalapattar and Base camp.
To touch to Everest Base Camp, either you can walk from Jiri, about 10 -12 days trekking or drive (jeep or bus) to Salleri / Thandanda and trek 6–8 days or fly to Lukla and trek 5–7 days. Many trekkers or climbers fly to Lukla and take two days to reach Namche Bazaar. A one full day explore the Namche bazar and trek to Tenboche, Dingboche/Pheriche, Lobuche and Gorepshep. Gorepshep is the last hotel/Lodge for Everest base camp trekking. From Gorepshep, 2–3 hours hike to base camp.
Namche Bazaar is the Sherpa’s headquarters and the largest village in the area. Explore the Sagarmatha National park office, typical Sherpa monasteries, the Sherpa museum, the Everest View Point hotel (2 hours hike) which has a splendid view of Ama Dablam as well as Everest, and the many small streets and shops, restaurant, coffee shops, bar, gear shops in Namche Bazaar. A rest day/acclimatization day can be spent day hiking up to the famous Sherpa villages of Khumjung. Another rewarding view point is just a short hike above Kunde on a wide trail.
From Namche Bazaar, walking for 4–5 hours takes you to Tengboche, the largest and most famous monastery in Khumbu. Many tourists join the daily worship celebrations in Tengboche monastery at 3pm or 6am. Next, you pass through the lovely village of Pangboche on our way to Dingboche. Dingboche is at 4410 meters. From Dingboche, a great day hikes up to the Dingboche Ri view point is highly recommended for suburb views up and down the Khumbu valley.
The trek from Dingboche, two days to reach Gorekshep. Gorekshep is the last spot for lodge /guest house for trekkers. From there, early morning climb to Kalapattar 2 -3 hours for sunrise view, then return to hotel. Have breakfast & day hike to Everest base camp.
Asian Hiking Team's Everest Base Camp trekking itinerary starts from Lukla, then proceeds to the Sherpa people's main village of Namche Bazaar, then up to Khumjung, Tengboche, Pangboche, Dingboche, then to Lobuche and the last stop, Gorekshep. Then climb to Kalapattar for the many incredible views of Everest and surrounding mountains, and explore the Everest base camp.
